#ShadesOfMagicTour – Lila Bard

shadesofmagic_orig

Welcome back to the Shades of Magic Readlong/Blog Tour! There’ve been three amazing posts so far:

Ivy kicked off the tour with a post about White and Red London, Shanna took you to Grey and Black London and Kati talked about the relationship between Kell and Rhy

Today is my turn and this post is going to be about one of the protagonists: Lila Bard.

Delilah Bard is definitely my favourite character from the Shades of Magic series and one of my favourite female characters ever. She is fierce, kick-ass and super fun. And she has one simple rule:

„If a thing was worth having, it was worth taking.“ (ADSOM p. 59)

Lila steals all kind of different things. Since she doesn’t have family or friends it means freedom to her – something she doesn’t want to lose. In a „Darker Shade of Magic“ this is how she meets Kell – and how everything gets out of control. In addition she loves trouble. She doesn’t shy away from picking fights, either.

„Looking for trouble, he’d say. You’re gonna look till you find it. — Trouble is the looker, she’d answer. It keeps looking till it finds you. Might as well find it first.“ (ADSOM p. 60)

Lila is a thin and tall 19-year-old girl from Grey London who appears boyish from far. She has brown hair which is usually cut along her jaw. She is a cunning and self-reliant girl who knows what she wants. Since she’s from Grey London where there’s no such a thing as magic, she doesn’t know anything about it. Deep down one of her biggest wishes is to be a pirate. She thinks she’s meant to be one, except that she doesn’t own a ship – something she wants to change, though.

In A Gathering of Shadows Lila wonders who she really is:

„Who was Delilah Bard? What was she? The first was a question she thought she knew the answer to, but the second… she’d tried not to bother with it, but as Kell had pointed out so many times, she shouldn’t  be here. Shouldn’t be alive, for that matter. She bent most of the rules. She broke the rest. And she wanted to know why. How. If she was just a blip in the universe, an anomaly, or something more.“ (AGOS, p. 134)

On the left you can see how V.E. Schwab pictures Lila. (I do hope this works. If you can’t see the picture, just click on it and you’ll be able to see it on Instagram.)

And then of course, the triad of blood and knives and feelings: Kell, Rhy, and Lila. Designed again by @smaskVXN

Do you like Lila as much as I do? Or do you have another favourite character from ADSOM and AGOS? If you haven’t read these books yet, do you think Lila is a character you could relate to?

On Twitter there’s also a giveaway happening at the moment! If you’d like to win a signed copy of This Savage Song also by V.E. Schwab, you should totally check it out!
